Tips for Adjusting to a Move to a Colder Climate
Moving is tough to begin with, let alone moving to a cold climate when you are from a warmer area. The adjustment period can be hard, but there are a few things one can do to be better prepared for the change of climate. Check out our tips below!
Tips for Adjusting to a Move to a Colder Climate:
- Clothes – This is a pretty obvious one! Be prepared for the cold weather by purchasing hats, gloves, sweatshirts, jackets. etc. ahead of time! It doesn’t need to break the bank, places like Walmart, Target, and Amazon have these items for highly affordable prices.
- Prep your car- Make sure your vehicle is just as ready for the cold as you are! Have an ice scraper ready to go. In addition, consider heating your car up a few minutes before getting in to drive off. Not only will this keep you warmer, but allow the windshield to defrost for safety. A tire gauge is also a good item to keep in your vehicle. The cold tends to allow air to come out of tires quicker, better to be prepared!
- Have what you need at home – Be prepared for snow storms! Have a flash light, first aid kit, and plenty of water in case of a power outage. In addition, if you live in a home as opposed to an apartment, consider being prepared with a snow shovel and salt (if needed) to allow for ultimate safety in the driveway and any walkways.
- Make sure to get a weather app on your phone – Have a weather app on your phone to track storms and icy road conditions! Safety first.
